Mourning Our Grief
The experience of change, both large and small, can lead to feelings of grief. Some experiences of change, like a decline in heath, change in job status, having to move, or separation from a loved one are not generally recognized as triggers for grief. This lack of acknowledgement can make it difficult to get the support needed to mourn.
Yet, it is through the process of mourning we are able to identify how changes in our lives are affecting our sense of self and place in the world. The process of mourning also leads us to finding acceptance in our newly emerging circumstances.
The purpose of The Grief Spot is to provide this gap in needed support. My approach integrates multiple recognized techniques that assist in my clients feel validated, supported and encouraged as they move through the mourning process. Each counseling session offers clients:
- An opportunity to reflect on their experience and changing circumstances
- A safe place to express their feelings
- Empathetic and non-judgmental listening
- Tools for processing the loss
- Guidance in finding acceptance toward the new normal

Personalized guidance to individuals experiencing grief related to losses including:
- Change in health status (yours or a loved one’s)
- Retirement / Unemployment
- Empty Nester
- Separation or distancing from a significant relationship (death or home relocation)
- Pet Loss
Because moving is such a physically and emotionally difficult experience, a special focus of support is needed. Having to move because of declines in physical and functional abilities can trigger grief centered on the loss of independence, the disconnect from one’s familiar surroundings and from anxiety about having to adjust to a new situation. Because of the complex impact having to move can have on older adults, The Grief Spot offer counseling support specifically for this life changing situation.
How to connect to The Grief Spot Services:
Sharing our worries and fears with another can leave us feeling vulnerable. The ability to share our most inner thoughts often feels safer when we do so by phone or computer. To accommodate those who prefer this ‘safe distance’ as well as the ease and comfort of being in their own familiar surroundings, The Grief Spot counseling services are available in three platforms:
- Online (HIPPA compliant)
- In person (In a limited geographic area)
