Having to Move

Grief Trigger:

Having to move when we are older can challenge our sense of  independence and autonomy.  Separating from our familiar surroundings and adapting to a new and unfamiliar one challenges our sense of competence and connection.

Moving often leads to profound feelings of grief.

Grief triggered by moving surfaces as resistance, anger, frustration, and depression.  These emotions effects both the older adult who needs to move and those engaged in the effort to move the person from their home.

Grief Support

The Grief Spot provides counseling services to the person needing to move and to their primary care partner with the following:

  • Identifying related issues of grief
  • Guidance in mourning related feelings of loss and sadness
  • Strategies for successfully adjusting to the emerging changes in lifestyle and location
  • Guidance before, during and after the actual move

The ranges of  issues associated with having to move generally requires multiple sessions. Sessions are scheduled and charged by the hour.
